WHO ARE YOU?
Who are you?
A simple worded question that requires deep consideration and a complex reflection of oneself. There are various possibilities of how this elementary inquiry could be answered.
The most common resolve is to use one's name uncomplicatedly , but is that enough of an introduction ? all names have been used before , it isn't exclusive to merely one person , there are millions with the same exact name. However , it is still a proper response , it lacks complexity and is straightforward, it leaves a sense of perplexity out of what great impact that name might uphold in the future.
Perhaps including one’s racial constructs in an introduction is appropriate , “i’m white…black..asain ..etc”,On one hand, it isn’t only about stating a label ,it is about engaging with border narrative of long history and heritage ,it can be a way to affirm one's identity and connect with others of the same background ,on the other hand it could be a way of restriction and limitation of potential and opportunities and it is not enough to capture the complexity of one's identity , for instance a bi-racial individual won't be able to fit into standard racial categorization . And racial constructs are unstable , and change over time reflecting the fluid and context-dependent nature of racial identity.
Within the realm of possibility , the saying “ You are what you do, not what you say you'll do ” -Carl Jung- can be implied when identifying oneself ,referring to the engagements in any artistic form , or the profession , or any activity that they practice on a daily basis, or only declaring achievements and success can be a wonderful approach to display proficiency and capability although , it brushes aside one's ambitions and dreams and the things they haven't done yet but are willing to , ones career can defy what they believe in or what they truly relish and care for.
Hence, self identification is a journey , we are constantly changing and evolving , our morals and ideas won't last forever , we will alter them with each experience we live through, our dreams and ambitions will either fade or be replaced with alternatives the longer we live .It is wise to decline making a permanent verbalization to who you are , because by time it won't be accurate. Nevertheless, specific social situations need identification, taking in consideration of contexts and what impression is most preferred to be given an answer can be easily given.
